New route from Medellín to Valledupar and more flights to Barranquilla: SATENA's bet on the Caribbean

Bogotá, february de 2026

In a context of greater economic integration between the interior of the country and the Caribbean region, SATENA, the airline of Colombians, announced two strategic decisions in its operational network: the opening of the new Medellín–Valledupar–Medellín route and the incorporation of an additional Sunday frequency on the Medellín–Barranquilla–Medellín route.

The new connection between Medellín and Valledupar seeks to consolidate an air corridor that articulates the business dynamism of Antioquia with the cultural, tourist, and productive potential of Cesar. The route will have launch fares starting at $242,400 on the web channel and $268,100 on the in-person channel for the Medellín–Valledupar route. In the Valledupar–Medellín direction, fares will start from $230,000 on the web and $251,300 on the in-person channel.

Tickets may be purchased between February 26 and April 6, 2026, for travel scheduled between April 15 and May 27, 2026. Fares are subject to availability and to the conditions in effect at the time of purchase.

"Connecting Medellín with Valledupar means integrating two territories with strong cultural identity, business activity, and tourism growth. This opening responds to our mission of articulating regions and generating opportunities where air connectivity is decisive for development," stated Major General Óscar Zuluaga Castaño, president of SATENA.

At the same time, the airline confirmed that starting March 1, 2026, it will add a new Sunday frequency on the Medellín–Barranquilla route, moving from three to four weekly flights in this strategic corridor. Until now, the operation is concentrated on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The strengthening of this route responds to the sustained growth in economic interaction between Antioquia and the Atlantic, two regions with high productive, commercial, and academic activity. The expansion will allow for greater flexibility in travel and will optimize connectivity between the Antioquian industrial axis and the capital of the Caribbean.

"Each adjustment in our schedule seeks to accompany the evolution of regional demand. It is not just about adding flights, but about consolidating corridors that directly impact the competitiveness and territorial integration of the country," added Zuluaga Castaño.

The new operations are already incorporated into the airline's official schedule. With these decisions, SATENA consolidates its presence in the north of the country and reaffirms its role as a strategic operator in the aerial articulation between the interior and the Caribbean region, strengthening corridors that directly impact the economic and social dynamics of the national territory.

About SATENA:

SATENA is the state-owned airline of Colombia, founded in 1962. Since its inception, it has played a fundamental role in providing air connectivity to remote and hard-to-reach regions of the country. Throughout its 63 years, the airline has successfully expanded its route network, connecting cities and destinations that were previously unreachable for many. Its commitment is based on "reaching where no one else goes," offering essential air connectivity for activities such as trade and medical care in remote areas.
